About This Project

1998-2006, my eight years as the Sound Designer operator for Circus Oz they were known as one of Australia’s leading theatre exports, it was during this time I honed and tuned my skills and language in sound/theatre crafts. I know how to construct an efficient bump in/out schedule, play the technical lead role and operate sound (and visual projections), In venues of any type, scale or continent. See my Circus page for listings.

My principle roll was pre production, installing and operating the shows audio needs, but Circus Oz also encouraged other involvements so I also did the show voice overs (lad During ies and Gentlemen.. etc), in different languages too. and a preshow soundscape and DJ’ing for Circus Oz events.

In feb’ 1998 I got a call from the music director of Circus Oz

“we’re looking for a new sound engineer are you interested?”……………………………………………………………. sure.

as the sound engineer for Circus Oz I was challenged to present Australia’s leading theatre export  on the international scene.

I knew how to pull a good live music mix, I knew how to produce a great CD, but I was about to learn how as part of a focused talented team to create the other worldly experience of circus in a theatre.

for the next eight years I worked seven shows a week every tour, producing the sound afresh each night, in all  types of venues on every continent (except the antarctic).

I now know this craft – from all directions.

my responsibilities were ‘all things audio’, sound system design, installation and operation, negotiating hire contracts, preparing budgets, coordinating with performance venues, technicians and crew, recording and producing SFX, CD’s and promotional material. I also supplied voice overs during the show and DJ‘d Circus Oz events. Circus Oz encourages all on board to contribute, to create and to extend themselves.
